I like the idea of “first order accessibility” for my tools and use pegboard and shelves to store my hand tools and metalworking tools. I have a lot of small tools I use at my bench and I want them all in hand’s reach. Going across the room to find a screwdriver is a waste of time, so I designed a rotating tool rack that can be cut on a laser cutter and assembled with parts from the box store. (I also have them for sale on Etsy in kit form, prepared by my fabrication company.)

Baltic birch and hardwood dowel rods. Easy to assemble but we can no longer buy Baltic birch in America.

I can’t speak to current availability of pure ‘Baltic’ birch, but hobby sized quantities of a pretty damn close equivalent is plenty available.
We use it by the M^2 at Creatorpult for our Laser-cut dice towers and mini-scale buildings, in 3 & 6mm thicknesses.
I don’t have time to research it @ t = now, but it’s out there.
